Two-row border fencing constructed from RD 30–59 km.
Reinforcing Border Security and Accessibility in the Gujarat Sector
This project involved the construction of embankments, border roads, security fencing, and Border Out Posts (BOPs) between Border Pillars 976 to 1012 along the Indo–Pak Border in Gujarat.
Undertaken by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), the project focused on erecting two rows of fencing from RD 30 km to RD 59.04 km, a critical stretch for strengthening surveillance and mobility of Border Security Force (BSF) units.
With a project completion cost of ₹7.56 crore, this initiative bolstered the structural integrity and accessibility of India’s western defense line.
Scope and Nature of Work
The project included the erection of dual-row border fencing with concertina wire and galvanized iron structures to improve security and visibility along the alignment. Supporting works involved construction and strengthening of embankments and approach roads to facilitate movement for patrol and maintenance teams.
Additional civil and structural works were carried out at nearby BOP locations to support deployment and surveillance operations. The infrastructure was built to remain durable under desert conditions and provide reliable access during flood or sand drift situations.
Engineering Execution and Quality Control
All construction and fencing works were executed under CPWD supervision in close coordination with BSF authorities to ensure compliance with defense specifications.
Engineering efforts focused on foundation stability, anti-corrosion treatment for fencing posts, and proper tensioning of barbed and concertina wires to prevent breaches or degradation under extreme weather conditions.
Every material—from concrete for foundations to galvanized steel for fencing—underwent rigorous testing as per MORTH and BIS standards, ensuring performance longevity in the harsh border environment.
Outcome and Strategic Importance
Completed at a total cost of ₹7.56 crore, the project successfully delivered dual-row fencing and strengthened access roads between BP 976 and BP 1012. The completed section now provides enhanced perimeter security, improved patrol mobility, and a reinforced physical barrier to prevent illegal crossings and smuggling activities. This project stands as a key contribution to India’s border management infrastructure, fortifying national security and ensuring the operational readiness of BSF units along the Indo–Pak border in Gujarat.
Navigating Harsh Terrain and Climatic Challenges
Executing works across the remote desert stretch of the Indo–Pak border in Gujarat required logistical precision and adaptive planning.
Teams faced challenges such as shifting sand dunes, high wind speeds, and limited water availability during construction. Despite these, the project maintained steady progress through modular execution, use of locally available aggregates, and continuous coordination with security forces to minimize operational disruptions.
