Widening and Improvement of Desalpar–Hajipir Road
Improving Connectivity Between Desalpar and Hajipir
The project for Widening and Improvement of Desalpar–Hajipir Road covered the stretch from Ch. 0/00 to 32/000 in Taluka Nakhatrana, District Bhuj, Gujarat.
With a completion cost of ₹16.05 crore, the work was undertaken to enhance regional accessibility, reduce travel time, and improve the overall condition of a vital route serving both local communities and nearby industrial areas in the Kutch region.
Scope and Nature of Work
The project involved widening the existing carriageway, strengthening pavement layers, and improving drainage systems and shoulders along the 32 km stretch.
The upgraded alignment and improved bituminous surfacing have provided smoother, safer, and more durable road conditions suitable for both light and heavy vehicles operating across the desert terrain of western Gujarat.
Execution and Quality Standards
The project was executed under the supervision of the Public Works Department (PWD), Government of Gujarat, following prescribed standards for design, material quality, and construction practices.
Comprehensive testing—including subgrade compaction, aggregate gradation, and bituminous density checks—ensured compliance with IRC and MORTH specifications. This resulted in a structurally strong and weather-resistant road surface optimized for long-term use.
Outcome and Regional Development Impact
Completed at a cost of ₹16.05 crore, the project successfully modernized a critical road link in Bhuj district, contributing to improved safety, reduced vehicle wear, and smoother connectivity for commuters and industries alike. The widened and strengthened Desalpar–Hajipir Road stands as an important component of Gujarat’s continued investment in rural and border-area infrastructure, supporting both economic growth and strategic accessibility in Kutch.
Facilitating Rural and Strategic Mobility
The improved Desalpar–Hajipir Road has enhanced local transport efficiency, connecting remote villages to markets, schools, healthcare facilities, and employment centers.
The road also holds strategic importance as it provides access toward the Hajipir region, which lies near the India–Pakistan border, supporting defense logistics and local administration mobility in the area.
