Widening of Dehgam–Bayad Road

Road Construction
Dehgam–Bayad Corridor, Gujarat, India
Completed

Upgrading the Dehgam–Bayad Road for Safer and Faster Travel

The project involved widening and strengthening of the Dehgam–Bayad Road from Km 0/0 to Km 43/800, expanding the existing 6.10-meter-wide carriageway to a 10.0-meter-wide road.

Executed under the Central Road Fund (CRF) Scheme 2017–18, the ₹28.33 crore project aimed to enhance regional connectivity, improve traffic capacity, and ensure safer, more efficient transport between Dehgam and Bayad in Gujarat.

Scope of Work and Structural Improvements

The scope covered complete road widening, strengthening of the existing pavement layers, and upgradation of shoulders and side drains to meet the standards for heavy vehicular movement.

The improved 10-meter width allowed smoother two-way traffic flow, reduced congestion, and improved ride quality. The strengthening works ensured long-term durability against increasing load and environmental stresses.

Execution under CRF Guidelines

The project was executed in accordance with CRF (Central Road Fund) 2017–18 specifications, following approved design and quality control protocols set by the Public Works Department (PWD), Government of Gujarat.

Material testing, compaction control, and geometric alignment were strictly monitored to ensure compliance with Indian Roads Congress (IRC) standards. All stages—from subgrade preparation to bituminous surfacing—were carried out under systematic supervision to maintain safety and quality benchmarks.

Project Outcome and Long-Term Value

With a total project cost of ₹28.33 crore, the widening and strengthening of the Dehgam–Bayad Road stand as a durable, future-ready corridor supporting Gujarat’s road development vision. The project ensures safer driving conditions, efficient goods movement, and reliable connectivity across rural and semi-urban areas—aligning with national objectives of infrastructure modernization under the CRF initiative.

Impact on Regional Connectivity and Transport Efficiency

The widened Dehgam–Bayad corridor has significantly improved mobility, safety, and travel time for commuters and logistics operators.

By connecting key agricultural and commercial zones, the project has strengthened local economies and improved accessibility to nearby towns, markets, and industrial clusters. The improved pavement structure has also reduced maintenance needs and extended road lifespan.
