Balance fencing construction along Indo–Pak border Gujarat
Strengthening Border Security and Connectivity in the Gujarat Sector
The project focused on the construction of embankments, border roads, fencing, and Border Out Posts (BOPs) between Border Pillars 1100 to 1116 along the Indo–Pak Border in Gujarat.
Executed by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), this work specifically covered the balance portion of fencing from RD 0.0 km to RD 26.3 km, ensuring continuity and completion of earlier phases of the security infrastructure.
With a project completion cost of ₹4.94 crore, it played a vital role in improving border surveillance capability and ensuring all-weather connectivity for Border Security Force (BSF) units.
Scope and Nature of Work
The project involved providing and completing dual-row security fencing along 26.3 km of the border alignment using galvanized posts and concertina wire. To support operational access, embankments and approach roads were constructed and strengthened for troop and vehicle movement along the fencing corridor.
Associated civil works were also executed at BOP locations to maintain structural readiness for defence operations. All components were designed for long-term performance with low maintenance requirements and resilience to local terrain and weather conditions.
Engineering Execution and Quality Assurance
The CPWD, in close coordination with BSF authorities, executed the balance works ensuring adherence to defence engineering and quality protocols.
Special attention was given to alignment accuracy, foundation depth for fencing posts, and anti-corrosive treatments to protect metal structures from environmental wear.
All materials and works were tested and certified under MORTH and BIS standards, ensuring that the completed stretch met the required structural and operational benchmarks.
Outcome and Strategic Importance
Completed at a total cost of ₹4.94 crore, the project successfully delivered the remaining 26.3 km of dual-row fencing and associated road infrastructure between BP 1100 and BP 1116. The completed alignment has significantly enhanced BSF mobility, surveillance coverage, and operational continuity along this sensitive border stretch. By completing the balance works, this project closed a critical security gap, reinforcing India’s border defence infrastructure and ensuring long-term readiness along the Indo–Pak frontier in Gujarat.
Managing Terrain and Environmental Constraints
Construction activities were carried out in a remote and flood-prone desert terrain of the Gujarat border. Challenges such as shifting sand, variable soil bearing capacity, and extreme temperature conditions required tailored engineering responses. The project team ensured uninterrupted progress through careful planning, phased logistics, and coordination with defence authorities to maintain operational security during execution.
